Elements of Competency Performance Criteria
Element: Determine scope of materials evaluation
  • Identify materials to be evaluated and their related manufacturing or engineering-related applications
  • Confirm stakeholders to be consulted on the evaluation
  • Confirm appropriate support, including technical and professional assistance, is available
  • Identify relevant work health and safety (WHS) and regulatory requirements, standards, codes of practice, risk management and organisational procedures

Element: Prepare for evaluation
  • Review design information about related products and processes for material specifications
  • Identify analysis principles and techniques relevant to the materials, processes, services, plant and tooling covered by the evaluation
  • Identify appropriate analysis software and software validation techniques
  • Investigate sustainability implications of materials and related manufacturing or engineering processes

Element: Evaluate materials and processes for an application
  • Determine properties of materials under evaluation, and supervise any required tests
  • Assess materials and related processes for compliance with WHS and other regulatory and risk management requirements
  • Assess material, product and processes for sustainability
  • Review materials for product and process suitability and process optimisation
  • Apply systems thinking, continuous improvement, problem-solving and decision-making, and constraint and contingency management principles and techniques to evaluation
  • Record results of evaluation
  • Provide documentation including tool, product and process analysis, and computer-aided design (CAD) files

Submission Requirements

List each assessment task's title, type (eg project, observation/demonstration, essay, assignment, checklist) and due date here

(add new lines for each of the assessment tasks)

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
Copy and paste from the following performance criteria to create an observation checklist for each task. When you have finished writing your assessment tool every one of these must have been addressed, preferably several times in a variety of contexts. To ensure this occurs download the assessment matrix for the unit; enter each assessment task as a column header and place check marks against each performance criteria that task addresses.
